Messene has returned to racing in typically competitive form this time and remains outright $3.20 favourite in 2016 Wagga Cup betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

A strong and consistent performer for Team Hawkes through his entire racing career so far, Messene has posted a commendable nine wins and eight minors through only twenty-eight competitive appearances.

Capping a strong 2015 campaign a close second in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) in Perth, the Lonhro gelding clearly needed the run when failing to beat a single opponent home in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) first-up but responded with a competitive, albeit luckless run for eighth in the talent-rich Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m).

Progressing to second in each of the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) and Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m), Messene was unable to match the late pace in the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Plate (2000m) last start but will relish a step back in class on Friday.

Adirondack is yet to herald much interest in 2016 Wagga Cup betting markets but remains sole occupant of the second line at a quote of $4.40 for success.

A former Godolphin galloper, Adirondack has been purchased and transferred to the care of Shawn Mathrick this time and has already posted a number of impressive results.

Winning the Mitty’s BM70 (1800m) on March 5th, the son of Lonhro ran a close second in the Stony Creek Cup (2100m) on March 13th before luckless performance for fifth in the talent-rich Bill Collins BM78 (2400m) on March 26th.

Undoubtedly produced a career-best effort to date at his most recent start, Adirondack was immediately led to the front in the Gold Heath (2000m) at Caulfield on April 16th and charged clear in the final straight to hit the line five lengths ahead of closest rival Firehouse Rock.

Interestingly figuring as the only other runner currently available at 2016 Wagga Cup odds of less-than $10, Iggi Pop ($9.50) could very well receive the run of the race from the ideal barrier 3.

Iggi Pop has been transferred to the care of Peter Robl for his current preparation and carries good form into his return to black type company.

Running seventh in each of the Titan Sheds Handicap (1600m) and Flash, Zing, Pop Culture Handicap (1630m), the son of Savabeel ran on for a close second in the Toowoomba Cup (2000m) last time out on April 16th.
